Wrongful Death: Facts and Figures

The figures are quite alarming. According to CDC, the major cause of wrongful death in the US is due to car accidents. There were roughly 42,031 fatalities from car accidents. In 2005, car crashes were the major cause of accidental deaths; 300 people who are at least 45 years old were fatally injured.

Other causes of wrongful death include poisoning, traumatic brain injuries, workplace, unsafe premises, and medical malpractice.

According to CDC report, in 2007, there were 29,846 of poison fatalities. Nevertheless, the most usual cause of wrongful death is traumatic brain injury, with a total of at least 50,000 cases. Medical malpractice is another common cause of wrongful death, with about 100,000 cases; 7% of these are due to errors in medication.
